MKV Intranet.
The intranet MKV hospital runs on: more than 200 screens covering department and group workspaces, live to-dos, agendas, emergency alerts, follow-ups, tickets, documents, a knowledge base and staff chat, in Dutch and English.
MKV's staff needed one place for everything around the patient record: who is in which department, what has to be done today, which rules apply, what is on the agenda, and what to do when an emergency is called.
I have been the lead frontend developer since November 2023 and the largest contributor to the codebase. I built most of the shared component library the whole app is assembled from, the React contexts behind the app shell, departments, groups, chat and sockets, and much of the typed GraphQL layer every screen reads and writes through.
The app uses the Next.js App Router with parallel routes for modals and drawers, so a to-do, follow-up or template opens over the page with its own URL and survives a refresh. Data goes through Apollo and GraphQL code generation: each module's operations become typed hooks for client components and typed handlers for server components.
Collaboration is live. To-dos, their categories and comments, news and emergency messages stream in over GraphQL subscriptions, while chat and notifications run over Socket.io, so nobody refreshes to see what changed.
The same foundation also carries the platform's technical documentation for medical equipment and materials, patient information and staff training, built by other developers on the components and data layer above.
Department and group workspaces
Each department and group has members and admin rights, news, an agenda, rules with overview and stats, to-dos and settings, from one shared layout.
Live to-dos
Department, group and cross-team to-dos with categories, comments, overview, timeline and stats views, kept in sync for everyone through GraphQL subscriptions.
Emergency alerts
Emergency messages pushed to staff in real time with read acknowledgement and reusable templates, alongside emergency-response (BHV) shift planning.
Agenda
Day, week and month calendars per department and group, with event creation, registrations and categories managed by super admins.
Staff chat
Direct messages, group chats and member management on a Socket.io context, with emoji support.
Documents, tickets and follow-ups
Document dashboards with types, classifications and tasks; tickets with configurable fields, locations and sub-types; follow-ups with status and comment threads.
Knowledge base, news, polls and search
Categorised and tagged articles, announcements with templates, staff polls, a phone book and a global search.
Super admin console
Departments and sub-departments, users, duties, document types and ticket configuration for the whole hospital.
Shared component library
Tables, modals, drawers, a Tiptap rich-text editor, PDF viewer, XLSX export, file and image uploaders, infinite scroll and notifications, reused across more than 200 routes.
The live app and source code belong to the client, so I can’t link them here. I’m happy to walk through the product and my code on a call.
